Now the largest religious monument in the world, Angkor Wat was once a Hindu temple founded by the Khmer Empire before turning into a Buddhist temple. Photos taken during sunrise, sunset and in between.
- Go as early as you can, not just to catch the sunrise, but to avoid the throngs of crowds from 8am onwards.
- The west side of the moat has a better full frontal view of the temple, but more crowded.
- Once the sun rises don’t dilly dally outside by taking another 2,532 photos of the same monument. Go right in to explore the temple, enjoy the peace and serenity of having the whole temple to yourself for a good hour. You can take more photos later.
- Don’t be overconfident or frugal, get a guide. There are many interesting facts and stories on each pillar, carving, wall, ceiling, floor, stone and windows that you would not have known otherwise. You can engage one of the many guides outside before you walk into the temple.
