8 Things To Do in Melbourne this Christmas

This year, Melbourne City Council has budgeted $3.78 million to transform the city into Australia’s Christmas capital. It’s beginning to look a LOT like Christmas!

Here are the top events and activities to do in Melbourne City-

1. Christmas @ Fed SquareChristmas at Fed Square

This year Fed Square partners with LEGO and turned The Square into a festive playground housing the largest LEGO Christmas Tree in the southern hemisphere, made from half a million of LEGO bricks and
1,200 hours to built. Come down to build your own LEGO decorations to take home; or if you are not quite the builder, you can always marvel at the display of amazing LEGO models built by the Melbourne community and dedicated adult fans.

2. Christmas Square by City of Melbourne

Christmas Square

Presented by City of Melbourne and supported by Intel, City Square is transformed into a Christmas Square, with a magical forest offering festive fun for the whole family. Discover nutcracker soldiers, interactive candy canes and take a photo with Santa during the day, and enjoy soundscapes and Christmas lighting by night.

3. Myer Christmas Window

Christmas Myer Window
Located along Bourke Street Mall, this piece of Melbourne tradition is not to be missed. For the 60th(!) year, The Myer Christmas Animated Windows present ‘Little Dog and the Christmas Wish’ from the much-l0ved children’s book and feature some of Melbourne’s most iconic sites as backdrops to the story, such as Flinders Street Station, the Hopetoun Tea Rooms, Block Arcade and the Skipping Girl Vinegar neon sign.

4. Gingerbread Village by Epicure

Gingerbread Village by Epicure returns in its fifth year, where you can find favourite Melbourne landmarks made out of gingerbread. This year, Executive Pastry Chef Deniz Karaca and his talented team had crafted the F1 Grand Prix to add to the village, along with iconic destinations like Luna Park, Arts Centre and the Zoo.

7. Christmas Projections by the City of Melbourne

Christmas Town Hall

Venture into the city by night, as the Melbourne Town Hall becomes a dramatic facade for a spellbinding Christmas light projection show, created by world-class projection designers The Electric Canvas. Also keep your eyes open for other participating buildings that are lit in Christmas colours: Melbourne Star, The Arts Centre, Bolte Bridge, Southgate, Melbourne Gaol, Royal Exhibition Building, MCG, State Library, Manchester Unity, Intercontinental Rialto and Westin Hotel.

8. Gingerbread Demolition

Gingerbread House (by Gingerbread Demolition)

Yes, you read that right. This not-to-be-missed, adult-only, ginger-licking good event allows you to cram into Santa’s stocking, stuff yourself with food and drinks from LuxBite, Cupcake Central, Crepes for Change Goldilocks Lunchbox etc., and the chance to smash a large gingerbread house. Upon smashing, take home as much delicious gingerbread as you can carry! Proceeds will go to Save The Children Australia.
